Morgan Dollars: The Most Misgraded-from-Photos Series (Long-Form)

Morgan dollars are traded heavily from photographs, but no dedicated long video yet teaches the full photo-reading sequence. The existing guide gives the method; this entry defines the long-form gap.

The 30-second scan

1. Read the hair above Liberty’s ear for strand separation or a broad smooth patch.
2. Check the cheek for a luster break rather than counting every contact mark as wear.
3. Read the reverse breast feathers, then confirm with the wreath bow and rim.
4. Separate weak strike from circulation wear by looking for matching luster breaks on the true high points.
5. Grade the evidence before reading the seller’s claim.

Luster is the uncirculated test. Coin close-ups and seller photographs can support a screen, but they are illustrative and cannot authenticate or certify a coin. The 1893-S currently has a Short, not a long Morgan guide.
