Four common routes
- Established coin dealer: fastest path to a single offer and payment; the dealer needs margin for resale risk and work.
- Specialist auction house: suited to genuinely special material; takes time and may involve seller and buyer commissions.
- Direct collector sale: can improve proceeds when the right audience exists, but adds negotiation, safety, and payment work.
- Self-listing online: highest labor—photography, grading, titles, messages, shipping, returns, fees, and fraud risk.
Before choosing
Finish the three-pile sort, calculate the metal floor, identify obvious keys, and collect at least two informed opinions. Keep written offers and the assumptions behind them.
