Approach estate sales with a written buy list

Estate sales can produce strong inventory, but only when discipline arrives before excitement. A written buy list protects the bankroll better than confidence does.

Before the doors open

1. Choose one to three series you understand well enough to grade and price.
2. Refresh recent sold listings and the current metal floor.
3. Write a maximum buy for every target.
4. Pack the scale, calipers, magnet, loupe, and a clean surface.

At the table

• Keep albums, envelopes, and labels with the coins while you inspect.
• Separate melt-driven pieces from premium-driven pieces.
• Apply the same test order every time; do not skip it because a story feels convincing.
• Walk away when evidence or margin is missing.
